Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called on developed countries to come forward with desired and committed disaster mitigation measures alongside climate funds to address the adverse effects of climate change. “I urge all developed countries to come forward with desired and committed disaster mitigation measures, including climate finance,” he said.
He made the remarks at a virtual conference held on Saturday to mark the fifth anniversary of the Paris Agreement.
The summit is co-sponsored by the United Kingdom, the United Nations and France in partnership with Chile and Italy. The conference began with introductory speeches by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, French President Emmanuel Macho, Chilean President Sebastian Pineran and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.
In a previous speech, the Prime Minister said: “Today we celebrate the fifth year of the historic Paris Agreement. “Unfortunately, we have not been able to achieve the goal set by the agreement.” “The reality is that the adversity of climate change does not prevent us from being inactive, nor does it rescue us from disaster,” he said.
