A four-year-old boy was charged with murder by hitting him with a stone on the head in Sunamganj Township. The incident took place at noon on Friday in Gujaura Hasannagar of the municipality. The incident was caught on a closed-circuit television camera near the scene, police said.
The deceased was identified as Enamul Haque Musa (Talha). He is the son of Nurul Haque from the town of Gujaura. The name of the young accused is Abdul Halim (30). His home is in the Moinpur village of the Surma junction of Sadar upazila.
According to the police and the victim’s family, the girl Talha was playing in front of her house this afternoon. Abdul Halim first kicked Talha and knocked her to the ground. He then hit Talha on the head with a heavy stone five or six times. The baby’s head was crushed and it was bleeding heavily.
As they passed the scene, relatives heard the screams of a motorcyclist and rescued Talha and took her to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital. When his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet. But this afternoon the doctor declared the baby dead. The locals detained the attacker from the place. They said he was drunk.
Sunamganj Sadar Model Police OC said. Shahidur Rahman confirmed the truth of the incident and said: ‘The incident is very tragic. The incident was captured with a CCTV camera next door. The locals arrested the young man and handed him over to the police. He is being interrogated. But he’s talking about one thing at a time.
