The world soccer governing body released the names of the three on its website on Friday in the selection of the best male soccer player of the year. Killian Mbabane, Thiago Alcantara, Kevin de Bruyne, Sadio Mane, Sergio Ramos, Mohamed Salah and Virgil von Dyke are excluded from the list.

Lewandowski, who played a key role in Bayern Munich’s triple win, was expected to be in the top three. Lewandowski’s remarkable consistent performance was the foundation of what the German team did last season. The Polish forward scored a maximum of 15 goals on his way to winning the Champions League undefeated. He scored 34 goals in the Bundesliga.

Lewandowski, who has scored 55 goals for the club in all competitions in the 2019-20 season, is now leading the race to win the Ballon d’Or. Yet for the first time in the 64-year history of the coronavirus season, France Football has decided not to present the award this year.

However, the 32-year-old forward’s dream of becoming the best footballer of the year will come true if he wins the FIFA ‘The Best’ award. The name of the year will be announced on December 16 at the FIFA The Best Football Awards.

Messi, the six times best footballer of the year, didn’t win much as a team last season. On the contrary, at the end of the Covid-19 season, the last season of his Barcelona team was a catastrophe. After losing the Copa del Rey earlier, he lost the La Liga title. Finally, in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, they ended the season empty-handed after losing 6-2 to Bayern.

However, he had some achievements in his personal performance and also set some new records. He played 33 games in the league and won the seventh Pichichi Trophy with 25 goals.

Ronaldo, the second best footballer of the year five times, won the Serie A title last season with Juventus. He scored a team-high 31 goals in the club’s ninth consecutive league win, the second-highest of the tournament.

Last year, Messi won the award by defeating Ronaldo and Liverpool’s Dutch defender Virgil von Dyke.
