About half a kilometer of the highway near Narayanpur Bazar and the Shitalakshya River on the Kapasia-Sreepur highway in Gazipur, built by the Department of Roads and Highways, has collapsed. The incident took place on Friday morning. Traffic on the highway is closed.

Speaking with some residents of the area, it emerged that there have been four landslides on the Kapasia-Sreepur highway so far. The first landslide occurred in February 1984, the second in February 2003, the third in February 2017, and the last Friday morning in the same area. People from 10 families, including Santosh Master, Ratan Chandra, Nani Gopal, Sadhan Chandra Das Master, Sushil Chandra, and Nitai Chandra, were terrified of the landslide. In 2016, Gazipur RHD officials hung a sign stating that the road was being monitored. Later, locals complained that the work was not going well despite RSA officials visiting him more than once. Locals believe that the landslide may have been caused by some locals who illegally extracted sand from the Shitalakshya River.
