Facebook's action against two hacker groups in Bangladesh

Dhaka: Facebook, the largest social media platform, has cracked down on two hacker groups in Bangladesh. The two groups of hackers are the Crime Research and Analysis Foundation (CRAF) and the Defense of Nations (DONS).

The two groups wanted to take control of the identifications and the pages of various social workers, journalists and people belonging to the minority community at home and abroad.

Nathaniel Glencher, Facebook’s head of cybersecurity policy, and Mike Villiansky, manager of cyber risk intelligence, made the announcement in a joint statement on Thursday (December 10).

It says that Facebook’s cybersecurity risk experts work for incidents like malicious propaganda, influencing others with malicious intent, and attempting to illegally hijack others’ accounts. As part of this work, we recently encountered some of these groups from Bangladesh and Vietnam. A Vietnamese group called EPT32 tried to run a fierce campaign on Facebook.

On the other hand, two groups in Bangladesh were trying to illegally seize other people’s IDs and pages. To do this, they were “reporting” the personal identifications and the purposes of the pages of various people and organizations. However, no agreement has yet been reached between the two groups in Bangladesh and the group in Vietnam.

Highlighting the identities of the two groups in Bangladesh, Facebook said that these two groups in Bangladesh tried to break our community politics. Dons and Crawf team up to report on various IDs and pages with various excuses. After disabling (deactivating) the IDs, the two groups worked to capture those IDs and pages.

Facebook also said the two groups have been successful in that work. Social media says they have hacked and used some of these people’s IDs and pages. The hackers used the email and device (mobile or computer) of the legitimate account user to take possession of the account.

These groups in Vietnam, including Bangladesh, have already been removed, according to Facebook. As part of the preventive measures, the identifications of the people associated with these groups have also been blocked. At the same time, Facebook has informed those whose accounts and pages have been hacked. And they have advised users to be more careful with their own safety.

By the way, among Bangladeshi netizens, Crawf and Dons have been working as a Facebook community for a long time. In particular, the two groups have been demanding that social media users voluntarily work on various cyber problems. So far no statement has been received from them about such a move by Facebook.

In this regard, the director of Cyber 71, Abdullah Al Jaber Hridoy, told banglanews that piracy is usually of two types. Ethical piracy and unethical piracy. Hackers and so on. Many in our country work as ethical hackers. They operate out of the country in need of the country. But unethical hackers work for illegal purposes to protect their own interests. Organizations like Facebook adhere to strict policies on these issues. This step is part of it. For these two groups, Bangladesh’s reputation in the internet world was tarnished.
