The main structure of the bridge of dreams of the people of the southern part of Bangladesh has been completed after overcoming many obstacles, two banks of the Padma have been added. The 6.15 km long bridge will directly connect 21 districts in the south of the country with the capital by road.

  • At 12:02 p.m. Thursday, span number two-F of the Padma Bridge was placed at posts number 12 and 13 on the Mawa side. This was the last of the 41 spans to build the entire bridge. As a result, the entire structure of the bridge has been made visible through the installation of this span.

  • On September 30, 2016, the first span was placed on posts No. 37 and 38 at the Jazira end of the Padma Bridge.

  • Overcoming various obstacles, the installation works for 41 spans of the bridge have been completed in 3 years, two months and ten days.

  • Of the 41 spans with which the entire bridge is being built, 20 have been installed at the Jazira end and 20 at the Mawa end. One section is located between the extremes of Mawa and Jajira.

  • Engineers have had to speed up the construction of the bridge over Pramatta Padma. Under the bridge posts, 122 meters of steel piles with a radius of three meters had to be placed, which was a great challenge.

  • If soft soil is found under the 22 posts in the middle of the Padma Bridge, the design needs to be reviewed. Subsequently, the consultancy reviewed the design and decided to extend the stack. It takes more time about a year.

  • Coronavirus epidemics and floods have also slowed down work. Section 32 was installed in October after overcoming all obstacles. Then the rest of the spans are placed in a short time.

  • The load capacity of the pendulum bearings used in the Padma Bridge is ten thousand tons. Engineers say the Padma Bridge has been built to withstand earthquakes of magnitude 9 on the Richter scale.

  • The 150-meter-long span of the Padma Bridge weighs around 3,200 tons. The spans are taken from the Mawa Kumarbhog construction yard to be placed on various poles by the Chinese ‘Tian Yi’ floating crane.

  • With the commissioning of this 6.15 km long bridge, direct road connectivity with the capital will be established in 21 districts in the south of the country.

  • After installing Span 41 on Thursday, Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam expressed hope that the Padma Bridge, the dream of the people of the southern region, will be opened to traffic in June 2022.

  • As soon as the concrete slab placement work is completed on the span of this two-story bridge, the pitch will be poured. The 22-meter-wide bridge will be able to transport vehicles on four lanes.

  • The train will run in a line across the belly of the Padma Bridge. Metric and wide gauge trains operate on the same line.

  • If this project is implemented worth Tk 30,193 crore, a direct communication between the capital and the port city of Chittagong will be established with the port of Mongla and the land port of Benapole.
