According to railway sources, Bangladesh Railway has started the construction of a 7,624 km wide gauge railway line from Chilahati to the border under the agreement with India to start India-Bangladesh train service on this route. The Minister of Railways, Nurul Islam, inaugurated the project at the Chilahati train station facilities on September 21 last year. The construction cost of this railway line is estimated at Tk 80 crore 16 lakh 94 thousand. On the other hand, the Indian Railways are completing the laying of a 6.5 km railway line from Haldibari to the Haldibari border in the Kochbihar district of West Bengal.
