A Dhaka court has refused to bring a case under the Digital Security Law against Mamunul Haque, Deputy Secretary General of Hefazat-e-Islam.
Dhaka Cyber Court Judge Ash Shams Jaglul Hossain did not accept the petition filed by Moshiur Malek, founder of the Bangabandhu Foundation, on Thursday morning.
While rejecting the request, the judge said the police could file such a case or appeal for such crimes under the Digital Security Act.
Prosecutor Nazrul Islam Shamim told The Daily Star that the police could bring such cases against anyone under the Digital Security Act. So the court did not accept his request.
The case was presented on November 13 at the BMA auditorium in the Topkhana Road area of the capital against Mamunul Haque for making “sedition remarks”.
On the night of December 7, Mamunul Haque, in a live broadcast on his verified Facebook page, called Muktijoddha Mancha an ‘extremist organization’ and said that he had never made disrespectful comments against Bangabandhu.
