Dhaka: The court dismissed the case brought against BNP President Khaleda Zia, Acting President Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir along with Hefazat-e-Islami leaders over the sculpture issue.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder approved the order on Thursday (December 10).
The court bench clerk Sirajul Islam told banglanews this information. However, he was unable to give a reason because he did not receive a full order.
AB Siddiqui, Chairman of Jannetri Parishad, presented the case in Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court Satyabrata Sikdakar on Wednesday (December 9). The court accepted the plaintiff’s statement and set the order on Thursday.
In addition to Khaleda Zia and the BNP leaders, Maulana Junaid Babungari, Amir de Hifazat, Maulana Mamunul Haque, Deputy Secretary General and Faizul Karim, Naib of the Islamic Movement were also indicted in the case.
Complaints have been filed under Section 500/506/426/109 of the Penal Code for defamation of the sculpture. Among them, several statements by Hefazat leaders were presented as allegations in the petition.
On the other hand, Khaleda-Tareq-Fakhrul was accused of sponsoring this fundamentalist group through various forms of cooperation and alliance policies. He also criticized the Awami League’s inaction on custody.
