Jhalokati: The District Awami League’s legal secretary, attorney Ruhul Amin Rizvi, was arrested in a case brought under the Digital Security Act for making offensive comments on Facebook Messenger about Jhalakati-2 deputy Amir Hossain Amu and his daughter.
Khalilur Rahman, officer in charge of the Jhalokati Sadar police, confirmed the matter to Bangladesh.
Earlier, Sheikh Mohammad Rabbi, the BCL district deputy general secretary, was arrested in the case on the night of December 6. He has been in preventive detention for two days.
According to the police, Sheikh Mohammad Rabbi, deputy general secretary of the BCL district, made offensive and obscene comments about Amir Hossain Amu, member of the advisory council of the Awami League, spokesman for the 14th party and former minister of industries, and his daughter from his own Facebook identification and messaging. ASM Mostafizur Rahman Manu, General Secretary of the District Bar Association, filed a case against Sheikh Mohammad Rabbi under the Digital Security Law at the Jhalokati Police Station on the night of December 6. Shortly after the case was recorded, the police arrested the accused at the Sadhana crossing of the city at around 9 pm.
Meanwhile, the leader of the Awami League, Ruhul Amin Rizvi, was accused of spreading the Messenger screenshot on Facebook. Police called him at the police station Tuesday night and questioned him. That is why they also made him a suspect in the case. His mobile phone was seized. He was arrested in the case Wednesday and sent to jail through court at 3 p.m.
Jhalokati Police Officer in Charge (CO) Khalilur Rahman said Rizvi’s mobile phone was seized after he was questioned. He was also arrested in the case for spreading screenshots on various messengers.
