The Libyan National Army (LNA) of the Libyan rebel caliph Haftar has seized a Turkish freighter.

The ship was detained along with nine Turkish and seven Indian sailors in eastern Libya, Deutsche Welle reported.

The LNA said in a statement that the ship, named Mabrauca, was intercepted on its way to western Turkey. There were nine Turkish sailors and seven Indians. They are being questioned.

Ankara is helping the Libyan government of National Accord (GNA) with weapons. Turkey and Qatar fully support the Tripoli-based government.

On the other hand, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Saudi Arabia support Haftar’s rebel forces.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Foreign Ministry has demanded the immediate release of the ship.

The country says Haftar’s forces are showing an aggressive attitude and if they try to attack Turkey in this way, strict measures will be taken.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the United Nations was working to restore order in Libya and hold elections next year.

However, Haftar and his militia continue to attack. This time a strict response will be given if it harms Turkey’s interests.

Haftar’s forces seized the second Turkish ship this year.
