Dhaka: The case brought against BNP President Khaleda Zia, Acting President Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir along with Hefazat-e-Islami leaders on the issue of the sculptures will be ordered on Thursday (December 10). Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder set the date for the order.
Earlier on Wednesday (December 9), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder presented the case in the court of Jannetri Parishad’s president, AB Siddiqui. The court accepted the plaintiff’s statement and set the case in order.
In addition to BNP leaders, including Khaleda Zia, Hefazat Amir Maulana Junaid Babungari, Deputy Secretary General Maulana Mamunul Haque and Naib Amir Mufti Faizul Karim of the Islamic Movement have also been charged in the case.
Complaints have been filed under Section 500/506/426/109 of the Penal Code for defamation of the sculpture. Among them, several statements by Hefazat leaders were presented as allegations in the petition. On the other hand, Khaleda-Tareq-Fakhrul was accused of sponsoring this fundamentalist group through various forms of cooperation and alliance politics. He also criticized the Awami League’s inaction on custody.
The same plaintiff AB Siddiqui had already filed more than 50 cases against BNP leaders and activists. Reports have also been published in the media.
