After 12 hours, the ferry service began on the Daulatdia-Paturia route

Due to heavy fog, ferry services on the Daulatdia-Paturia route in the southwestern part of the country were suspended from 10 pm on Tuesday to 10 am on Wednesday. Hundreds of vehicles have been stranded on both sides of the river waiting for the 12-hour ferry service.

Sources said heavy fog began to fall in the river area since Tuesday night. As the night progresses, the density of the fog increases. At around 10 p.m., the waterway was covered in fog. Faced with this situation, the BIWTC authorities announced that they would stop all types of shipments to avoid any type of accident around 10:45 p.m. At around 10 a.m., when the density of the fog eased a bit, the ferry service resumed. Thousands of passengers and transportation drivers in the Southwest region have been affected by the suspension of ferry services on this important waterway for 12 consecutive hours. In the Daulatdia Ghat area, children, patients, women and drivers suffer the most as they are trapped in the cold air of the river all night.

The Dhaka Metro ambulance driver G-61-3472 left Jessore. Aynal Hossain said: I will go to the Dhaka Hard Foundation with Jessore’s patient at 3pm. Upon arriving at the pier, I found out that the ferry was closed due to fog. Mukul Hossain, the eldest son of the patient, said: “I am sitting on the pier with my mother at 3pm. I can’t say when I will cross the river with my sick mother to Dhaka because the ferry service is closed due to the fog”.

Mahatab Hossain, AK Travels Paribahan passenger, said: “I arrived at Daulatdia Ghat around 11:30 pm and got stuck in the series. I later learned that the ferry service was closed due to fog. I have been stuck in the ghat area since night until now and have been in extreme misery.

Palash Sek, a truck driver loaded with drinks from Jessore, said: “I was stuck in the fog because the ferry was not sailing at the dock. There have been many troubles on winter nights. If it was Padma’s second bridge, our journey wouldn’t have been so difficult. We demand the second Padma Daulatdia-Paturia bridge.

Meanwhile, passengers were seen crossing the ferry with the help of life-threatening trawlers as the ferry service was closed due to fog.

Co-director of the BIWTC Daulatdia office. Confirming the closure of the ferry, Mahabub Hossain said that the ferry service was suspended from 10 pm to avoid accidents due to thick fog. There are currently 16 ferries sailing this route. He said stranded passenger vehicles would cross the river as a priority to alleviate suffering.
