The sleep distance is only 150 meters. As soon as the last span settles on pillars 12 and 13, Bangladesh will see the dreamy Padma Bridge. The main infrastructure of the 6.15 km long Padma Bridge will be built entirely in a single strand by building the Mawa and Jajira ends in one strand.
So far 40 sections of the Padma Bridge have been installed. The rest is the last stretch. Section 41 (2-F) will settle on piers 12 and 13 of the bridge. The stretch is scheduled to be installed on Thursday (December 10). However, the span installation process will begin today.
The 150-meter-long gray stretch from the steel truss jetty at Munshiganj’s Mawa Kumarbhog Construction Yard in Lohajang is scheduled to depart on Wednesday on the world’s largest floating crane, Tian-e, for the coveted pier. The news has been confirmed by Padma Bridge Project Manager and Executive Engineer Dewan. Abdul Quader.
He said that all leg placements will be completed after overcoming various challenges. This time no special function was organized. However, Chinese contractors can organize a small event according to their own rules.
The Padma Bridge became visible on September 30, 2016 with the installation of the first span on posts 37 and 38. As such, all spanning of the bridge is being installed in 3 years 2 months and 10 days. Floods, river erosion, naval crisis in the riverbed, Corona virus epidemic and many other complications were overcome and 40 spans were installed one by one. On December 4, the 40th section.
1,265 of the 2,918 road slabs of the main bridge and 1,930 of the 2,959 road slabs have been installed. 310 of the 474 Super-T beams have been installed on the Mawa and Jajira viaducts.
An engineer associated with the Padma Bridge said the bridge’s biggest challenge was installing piers and spans. Most of these two works must be carried out within the river. The currents, the fog, the floods have created obstacles in this work. If the last leg settles, the rest of the work can move forward quickly.
According to the latest data provided by the Executive Engineer of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project, 91% of the actual works of the main bridge have been completed, 85.50% of the river management works have been completed and 100% of the works of the connection road and the service area. The overall progress of the project is 72.50 percent. The government has announced the opening of the Padma Bridge to traffic at the golden anniversary of independence next December.
The project manager, Dewan Abdul Quader, told Kaler Kanth that traffic on the bridge will be able to start in December 2021.
