Dhaka: The High Court ordered the confiscation of the book by the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party, Colonel Oli Ahmed Bir Bikram, “Revolution, Military Personnel and the Liberation War in Bangladesh”.

After hearing a writ petition alleging that Ziaur Rahman was the first interim president to have such information in the book, the court ordered it banned and confiscated.

The High Court also ordered the blocking of YouTube content of Kanak Sarwar, a journalist living abroad, for broadcasting an interview with Oli Ahmed on the same topic.

Tuesday (December 6) Justice. Khasruzzaman and Justicia. Mahmud Hasan gave the order along with the Talukder ruler of the high court.

Attorney Shah Manjurul Haque appeared for the writ petition. Assistant Attorney General Bipul Bagmar represented the state.

Later, Shah Manjurul Haque said that on August 18, journalist Kanak Sarwar interviewed Colonel Oli Ahmed on a YouTube channel. There, he said, Ziaur Rahman was the acting president. I challenged him and asked for his book to be banned. There are many negative things about Bangabandhu in different places in the book. In addition, the controversial content that Kanak Sarwar has given on YouTube has been discarded. These are ordered to be disabled or turned off.

The appeal request was presented by lawyer Imtiaz Uddin Ahmed Asif.

Previously, on September 8, lawyer Imtiaz Uddin Ahmed Asif had issued a legal notice to the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party, Colonel (retired) Oli Ahmed Bir Bikram, for allegedly distorting history by referring to Ziaur Rahman as the ‘interim president’ of independent Bangladesh.

On the same day, Imtiaz Uddin Ahmed Asif said that Oli Ahmed gave an interview on Konak Sarwar’s Facebook and YouTube channel on August 18. There, he claimed, Ziaur Rahman was “the first interim president.”

But in the constitution Bangabandhu has been called the first president and Syed Nazrul Islam the vice president. No one has talked about it since independence. So this statement distorts history. I have given notice for this reason.

On Tuesday, Imtiaz Uddin Ahmed Asif said that Oli Ahmed had responded to the notice. However, he is inflexible in his speech. I then added the response to your notice and submitted a written request.

In the brief request, Ziaur Rahman was named as the country’s first interim president.

Instructions were also requested to ban, block, invalidate and remove all anti-national video content from Kanak Sarwar, including the interview with Oli Ahmed.

The Superior Court ordered the hearing to end on Tuesday.
