The scholars did not say that the sculpture is broken, the opposition is logical: Charmonai Pir

Claiming that no academic has asked to break the sculpture, Amir Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim of the Bangladesh Islamic Movement has said that breaking the sculpture is an illegal act. There is no objection if the government judges those involved.

The opposition will continue, Charmonai Pir said, adding that the sculpture is forbidden in the eyes of Islam. That is why scholars oppose the construction of sculpture.

He made the remarks at an emergency press conference Tuesday afternoon at the organization’s headquarters in Purana Paltan, the capital.

He called for the withdrawal of the sedition case against Mufti Syed Faizul Karim, Hefazat Amir Junaid Babungari and Maulana Mamunul Haque.

Furthermore, Charmonai Pir has described the existing situation with the sculpture as a conspiracy of anti-national forces.

He said that the conspirators wanted to create social and religious instability to implement the foreign agenda by destroying the unity of the Bangladeshi people. A privileged section is trying to create chaos in the country through threats based on the opinions posed by the Muslim masses in general.

I believe that behind them is also the fuel of some national and foreign circles working for the achievement, development, social harmony and stability of Bangladesh.

“The extremist forces and their rebel allies consider our silence a weakness,” Charmonai Peer told a news conference. I urge the government to stop these unjust intruders.

He warned the ruling government and its “privileged extremist supporters” that the country’s devout Muslims were united today. There is also a limit to the patience of peace-loving religious people. If the government fails to stop the excesses and provocative activities of its privileged extremist supporters and conspiratorial forces against the country, then the patriotic and religious masses will be forced to build a resistance against them.

Among others present at the press conference were Naib Amir Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim, Presidium members Syed Mosaddeq Billah Al-Madani and Khandaker Golam Mawla, Political Advisor Prof Ashraf Ali Akon, Deputy Secretary General Prof Mahbubur Rahman and Maulana Gazi Atamur.
