The prime minister gave the directive while discussing a draft amendment at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday, said Planning Commission member Professor Shamsul Alam.

The Prime Minister chaired the meeting by joining the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar via video conference from Ganobhaban.

Usually Planning Minister MA Mannan briefs journalists after the ECNEC meeting. He was attacked by the Covid-19 planning secretary. Asadul Islam used to attend informational meetings. He also attended the briefing Tuesday as a member of the Planning Commission’s General Economics Department. Shamsul Alam.

He said that a proposal was presented at the meeting to modify the duration and cost of the project ‘Modernization of the Agricultural Information Service and Strengthening of Digital Agricultural Information and Communication’.

“While this is being talked about, the prime minister wants to know why all the projects are delayed.”

The project, which started in January 2016, was expected to be completed in June 2020. At that time, the cost of the project was estimated at Tk 6 crore 81 lakh.

In a briefing after the meeting, Shamsul Alam said: “During the discussion about the project, the Prime Minister wanted to know directly from the project manager: what is the reason why the project could not be completed?”

But since the project manager was not present at the meeting, no one else responded to the prime minister’s question at the meeting.

“Then the Prime Minister said: ‘Take steps to implement the project quickly. What causes delays in all projects. This is a low-cost project. This isn’t supposed to take that long.

The Prime Minister further said: “Since the project is nearing completion, why is the deadline extended for two more years? Tk 6 crore is being made Tk 109 crore to extend the time.”

Shamsul Alam said the Prime Minister ordered the higher authorities of the ministry in question to call the project manager and review the proposal.

“Take steps to ensure that all projects are completed on time,” he said. And find out why it’s so late. ”

The Prime Minister also expressed “dissatisfaction” with the Charkhali-Tushkhali-Mathbaria-Patharghata highway development and expansion project, which was submitted for review at the meeting.

In 2016, the Tk Rs 104.06 million project was launched to expand the Bhandaria and Mathbaria upazilas roads in the Pirojpur district and Patharghata upazila in the Barguna district.

Now it has been proposed to increase the cost of the project to Tk 149.33 crore and extend it until June 2021.

Dr. Alam said: “In presenting the project for review, the Prime Minister said:“ In 2016, I took this project for one year. This project shouldn’t have taken that long.

“It just came to our notice then. You could have done it if you wanted. Why did it take so long? Check again, raise the money again বন্ধ stop them. That kind of sector, you close it. The time it takes for the project must end. Yes it extends the duration of the project and increases the cost, it can no longer happen. “

The Prime Minister also informed the meeting that the duration of such projects would not be extended in this way.

“When the project is going to start, the project must be completed within that period,” he said. Alam.
