A court granted pretrial detention to two madrasa students and two teachers arrested for vandalizing a sculpture of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia.
Kushtia’s senior judicial magistrate, Enamul Haque, presented the four detainees to the model police station at 11 a.m. on Tuesday and requested pre-trial detention.
Following the hearing, the judge granted a five-day pre-trial detention to two madrasa students, Abu Bakkar alias Mithun, 19, and Sabuj Islam alias Nahid, 20. At the same time, the court granted a four-day pre-trial detention. days to two teachers from the madrassa, Al Amin (26) and Yusuf Ali (28).
The four defendants were brought before the Kushtia Judicial Court of First Instance at 11 a.m. on Tuesday under strict police security.
Earlier, the investigating officer on the case, Kushtia Model Police Station Inspector Nishikanta Das, ordered the two madrasa students arrested for vandalizing the sculpture in court for 10 days and two teachers from the same madrasa for seven days.
On Friday (December 4), criminals vandalized a sculpture of the nation’s father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the intersection of five roads in Kushtia. Subsequently, the police collected CCTV footage of the incident.
Police in a raid on Saturday and Sunday arrested two students from the Hefz department of Madrasa Ibn Masood (RA) in the Jugia area of Kushtia and two teachers for helping them.
