The foreign minister has harshly criticized the UN statement on the relocation of the Rohingya to Bhasanchar. AK Abdul Momen. Responding to a question from reporters at the Foreign Ministry in Dhaka on Monday, he said that the Rohingya in Kutupalong or Bhasanchar in Cox’s Bazar were not a matter for the UN to investigate. It is the responsibility of the United Nations to help the Rohingya wherever they are in Bangladesh.
Pointing to the big Western countries and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the Foreign Minister said: “Take away their (Rohingya) hobbies.”
Although the UN and UN officials made indicative statements on the environment at Bhasanchar in Noakhali, they did not make any formal offers to Bangladesh to visit the island. Bangladesh has been discussing Bhasanchar with the United Nations for more than two years. Therefore, the idea that the Rohingya have been relocated to Bhasanchar without informing the UN is not true. Relevant sources said that while Bangladesh has been moving forward with the Rohingya relocation plan in Bhasanchar for several years, various parties have tried to dispute it in their interest.
Yang Li, the UN Special Rapporteur on Myanmar, visited Bhasanchar last year. Later, the government of Bangladesh gave him a helicopter for that visit. When visiting Bhasanchar, he appreciated the various facilities there, including the infrastructure; But upon his return to Dhaka, he insisted on a technical study on Bhasanchar at a press conference. After that a long time passed but that survey was not done.
Foreign Minister. AK Abdul Momen said yesterday that the UN had never made a formal proposal to visit Bhasanchar. They can go there at any time if they want, the government has made that preparation.
When asked if the impact of the Rohingya relocation to Bhasanchar would be felt internationally, the Foreign Minister said: “Why should it be read? Kutupalanga, Cox’s Bazar, here, what is the problem? Everything? is the same ‘.
Mentioning that the Bangladeshi government is feeding the Rohingya in Bhasanchar, he said: “I think the mandate of the United Nations, the foundation on which they work in our country, is to help refugees.” Its mandate must be fulfilled. It doesn’t matter where they are. Whether they are in Kutupalong, Bhasanchar or elsewhere, their mandate is to help.
The Foreign Minister said: “Wherever Bangladesh is, they (the United Nations) have to cooperate. That is why they came here. It is not written there that they will only cooperate in Kutupalong. ‘
The foreign minister said that the transfer of the Rohingya to Bhasanchar was an internal initiative of the country. Whenever Myanmar starts taking its people, they may go first.
When asked about the Rohingya who had stayed in Bhasanchar for several months, the Foreign Minister said that “306 people went to the sea and died.” They were burying them. From there we survive. No one else took them. So different countries have put pressure on us. We said, you take it. I have also told those that are large countries: you have so many hobbies, take them. We have no objection. Nobody took it. ‘
