Hefazat-e-Islam leader Junaid Babungari, Muhammad Mamunul Haque and Khilafah Andolan Bangladesh leader Syed Faizul Karim have been charged in two separate sedition cases for speaking out against the sculpture of the father of the nation. The central chairman of Muktijuddha Mancha, Aminul Islam Bulbul, and the founder and CEO of the Bangabandhu Foundation, Abdul Malek Mashiur, presented two cases in the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates Court on Monday. After the hearing, Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder learned of the accusations and ordered an investigation. He has been ordered to present the investigation report on January 8.

Hefazat Amir Junaid Babungari, Deputy Secretary General Mamunul Haque and the Khelafat Naib Amir Syed Faizul Karim Movement have all been indicted in the case brought by Aminul Islam Bulbul. Charges have been brought against them under sections 120 (b) (1), 124 (a) and 505 (a) of the Penal Code. Mamunul Haque is the Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Khilafah Majlis.

Abdul Malek Mashiur has only accused Mamunul Haque. He has been charged in accordance with articles 120 (b), 153 and 124 (a) of the Penal Code.

Bulbul’s statement in the case claims that the defendants are using Islam as a shield, making “hateful, imaginary, provocative and provocative” statements with strange interpretations of the religion. They are conspiratorially involved in sedition activities by creating hatred among the Bengali Muslim community for the Liberation War, Bangabandhu and the Constitution.

The RG further said that the defendant Mamunul Haque spoke against the Bangabandhu sculpture at a performance at the BMA Bhaban auditorium on Topkhana Road in the capital on November 13. He threatened to create another Shapla Chattar if the sculpture was not stopped.

Abdul Malek Mashiur alleged that the defendant Mamunul Haque threatened to demolish the Bangabandhu sculpture. He said: “Body after body will fall, but the construction of the Bangabandhu sculpture will not be allowed.”

The accusation against the defendant Syed Faizul Karim was that on November 13 a demonstration was held under the banner of ‘Touhidi Janata Oikya Parishad’ at the Dhupkhola land in Gandaria, Dhaka, to oppose the installation of a sculpture by Bangabandhu on the occasion of of the Mujib Year. At that rally he made the common faithful swear that they would throw the sculpture of Bangabandhu in Buriganga.

It is alleged that on November 26, the defendant Junaid threatened to throw a sculpture of Bangabandhu at a gathering in Babungari Hathazari.

Aminul Islam Bulbul alleged that as a result of these statements by the defendants, the Madhudar sculptures at Madhur Canteen and the Bangabandhu sculptures under construction in Kushtia were being destroyed in different parts of the country.

Meanwhile, in the incident of vandalism of the Bangabandhu sculpture in Kushtia last Friday, Supreme Court lawyer and leader of the Swechchhasebak League, Md. Zeeshan Mahmood, on Sunday applied to the Ministry of the Interior for permission to file a sedition case. against Junaid Babungari and Mamunul Haque.
