Mamunul Haque, Deputy Secretary General of Hefazat-e-Islam and Acting Secretary General of the Khilafah Majlis of Bangladesh, said that an unstable situation had been created in Kushtia by demolishing a sculpture by Bangabandhu. It is undesirable, sad and reprehensible. Someone is trying to get my name involved in breaking the sculpture. But speaking in very unequivocal language, I did not say anything about taking the law into my own hands through any of my statements or words. No one who respects the law and order of the country will be able to do that.

He made the remarks in a statement on his Facebook page Monday night about the “general situation arising from the dispute over the sculpture, the sedition case.”

Mamunul Haque said: “My statement is that from the Islamic point of view, it is illegal and haram to keep sculptures. I have informed the appropriate authorities and we have made it clear in our statement.” If Allah ever gives us the capacity at the state level, then I will organize all activities in the light of Shariah, InshaAllah.

In the context of the case, he said, “I have repeatedly said that in our statements, they have laid the groundwork for sedition by distorting their own fabricated opinions and interpretations.” Academics across the country say that our statement is never against Bangabandhu. On the contrary, all Bangladeshis, all Bengalis respect and love the late Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the great leader of independence. He also mentioned that as a Muslim, he seeks forgiveness from his soul.
