Delwar Hossain Sayedee from jail to court

Acting Judge Mohammad Nazrul Islam of Dhaka Special Court of Judges 3 approved the order. In the case, Delwar Hossain Sayedee was charged with tax evasion of Tk 58 lakh 46,612. According to the case file, the court brought charges against Delwar Hossain Sayedee on September 15, 2011 in a tax evasion case. So far, the state has been unable to present witnesses in the case. On August 19, 2010, Masuma Khatun, the then Deputy Commissioner of Fiscal Circle 51, filed a lawsuit against Delwar Hossain Sayedee for tax evasion. The hearing in the Zakat embezzlement case against six people, including Delwar Hossain Sayedee, was postponed. The court has set December 26 for the hearing of the case. Judge Syeda Hosne Ara from Dhaka’s Court of Special Judges 1 approved the order today. Rabiul Islam, a bench clerk at the court, told Prothom Alo that the defendant had asked the court for more time to hear the case. Statements were presented against the allegation of the accused by the State. At the end of the hearing, the court set the hearing date.

According to the case file, Ayub Ali Chowdhury, the then director of the finance and accounting department of the Islamic Foundation, brought a case against four people, including Delwar Hossain Sayedee, alleging embezzlement of Tk 1.28 crore. After investigating the case, on April 30, 2012, ACC Deputy Director Wazed Ali Gazi filed a charge sheet against seven people, including Delwar Hossain Sayedee. In addition to Delwar Hossain Sayedee, the other six defendants in the case are former minister of state for religion Mosharraf Hossain Shahjahan, former director of the Islamic Foundation Md. Lutful Haque, Abul Kalam Azad, Mia Mohammad Yunus, Tofazzal Hossain and Abdul Haq. Among them is the former minister of state for religion Musharraf. Fugitive Abul Kalam Azad. Others are out on bail. Four defendants on bail were present in court today.

On February 17, 2016, the Appeals Division sentenced Delwar Hossain Sayedee to death for crimes against humanity during the liberation war. Sayedee was arrested on June 29, 2010 on charges of insulting religious sentiments.

He was subsequently arrested on August 2, accused of crimes against humanity.
