Misappropriation of money and evasion of income taxes

Jamaat leader Maulana Delwar Hossain Sayedee has appeared in court charged with embezzling money from the zakat fund of the Islamic Foundation (IFA) and evading income tax.

It was filed in the court of Judge Syeda Hosne Ara at the Dhaka-1 Temporary Special Judges Court, established at the Alia Madrasa ground in Bakshibazar, Old Dhaka, after 9:30 am on Monday. Ayub Ali Chowdhury, former director (finance and accounting) of the foundation in question, filed the case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on May 24, 2010 alleging embezzlement of the Ifar Zakat fund.

After investigating the case, ACC Deputy Director Wazed Ali Gazi filed a charge sheet in court on April 30, 2012.

Meanwhile, on August 19, 2011, the NBR filed a lawsuit against him for concealing an income of Tk 2 crore 26 lakh 40,120 and applying a tax evasion amounting to Tk 57 lakh 46,612. The court He filed charges against Sayedee in the case on September 15 of the following year.

Maulana Delwar Hossain Sayedee is in jail on a death sentence for crimes against humanity.
