The four arrested in connection with the vandalism of the Bangabandhu sculpture in Kushtia will be presented in court on Monday and sent to the police for questioning. In the morning, a senior Kushtia district police official gave this information to Prothom Alo on condition of anonymity.
The police officer said a request would be made to the court for each of the four to be held in pre-trial detention for seven days.
The four arrested are Ibn Masood (ra) a madrasa teacher from the Jagati Paschimpara area of Kushtia city and the son of Abdur Rahman from the Dhubail village of Mirpur upazila district. Al Amin (26), teacher and son of Azizul Mandal from the Diar Bamundi area of the Aminpur police station in Pabna. Ifsuf Ali (28), student studying in the Hefz department of the same madrasa and son of Mridha from Simsur village in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia. Abu Bakkar alias Mithan (19) and Daulatpur upazila from the Philipnagar district area (Golabaria). Said the son of Shamsul Alam. Sabuj Islam alias Nahid (20).
Last Friday night, an under construction sculpture by Bangabandhu was vandalized at the intersection of five roads in the city of Kushtia. Last Saturday night, Kushtia Municipality Clerk Kamal Uddin filed a case with the Kushtia Model Police Station under the Special Powers Act.
