Police arrested two madrasa students and two madrasa teachers for helping them escape from a madrasa after seeing CCTV footage of the vandalism of a sculpture under construction by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia.

The students involved in the demolition of the sculpture are Abu Bakkar alias Mithan (19) and Sabuj Islam alias Nahid (20), students from the Hefz department of Qawmi Madrasa. Mithan’s house is in Shingpur village of Mirpur upazila and Nahid’s house is in Philipnagar’s Hogalbaria village in Daulatpur upazila. The arrested madrasa teacher is Al Amin (28). Another teacher, Yusuf Ali, 28, from the village of Dhubail in Mirpur upazila, hails from the village of Diar Bamundi in Aminpur upazila of the Pabna district.
Khulna Range DIG told reporters that even after 23 hours of the incident, only 12/13 hours after questioning, the arrested students were identified by looking at CC footage with the sincere efforts of officers and members of the police .
He said the district police saw video footage of the incident and arrested Abdullah and Abdur Rahman, students from the Jamaat department of Madrasa E Ibn Masood, located in Jugia West Para. When their questioning and footage were shown, they gave information that they were students from the Hefz department of this madrasa. The students were subsequently raided on Saturday night and arrested.
After admitting their involvement in the incident after their arrest, they said they were motivated by the statements of Maulana Muhammad Mamunul Haque and Maulana Faizul Karim.
The arrested students told police that on the night of December 5, when all the students at the madrasa fell asleep, the two secretly left the madrasa and walked to the corner of Kanabil near the Shahin councilor’s house. After that, Fazlul Uloom came to the sculpture at the intersection of 5 roads by the railway line through Kamalapur.
From 2:05 pm to 2:13 pm, he climbed onto the sculpture on a bamboo pole in just 6 minutes and struck the sculpture under construction with the hammer he had with him. It breaks and distorts various parts of the hands and face. They returned to the madrasa on foot and fell asleep.
In the morning, two teachers from the madrasa learned of the incident and told them to flee the madrasa. The Madrasa teachers were arrested, according to the students’ confessions.
Two students and two teachers detained at the press conference were brought before journalists. Responding to several questions from journalists, the DIG said that the police had arrested those involved in the incident in a show of responsibility.
The Kushtia Model Police Station has been charged under article 15 (3) of the Special Powers Act and Penal Code 426/34 against detainees. They will be identified if other people or organizations are involved in the incident during their police questioning.
The DIG also said that if someone wants to create a murky environment due to this incident, they will be repressed with a firm hand. And after this incident, there is no chance that the law and order situation will deteriorate. He said additional police officers have already been deployed in all parts of the district where there are murals and sculptures.
Empty shots in front of the police
Meanwhile, a young man with a minibus approached the sculpture at the intersection of five roads in the busiest area of the city of Kushtia around 6 p.m. on Saturday, took a pistol and fired two rounds of shots on target. in the presence of the police. At that time, a large number of people, including the police, were near the scene, but no one approached out of fear. After the young man left the scene, the police alerted him. The news spread immediately, but the young man was not found until the writing of this report. Upon receiving the news, senior district police officers rushed to the scene.
BNP office vandalized
Meanwhile, after the Bangabandhu sculpture vandalism incident, a group of strongmen vandalized the district BNP office in Kushtia city on Saturday afternoon and around 9pm. In the evening, the counter of SB, the business establishment of BNP District Secretary General Sohrab Uddin, was attacked and vandalized. Two media workers were seriously injured while taking pictures of the attack. They were admitted to the Kushtia General Hospital.
