Those arrested are Abu Bakkar alias Mithun, 19, son of Mridha from Shingpur village in Mirpur upazila, Sabuj Islam alias Nahid, 20, son of Shamsul Alam from Philifnagar village in Daulatpur upazila and Md Abdur Rahman, son of Abdur Rahman from Dhubail village in Mirpur upazila. . Al Amin (28) and son of Azizul Mandal from Diar Bamundi village of Pabna district, Md. Yusuf Ali (26).
The DIG said the students vandalized the sculpture after walking about 3 km from their madrasa. By analyzing the CCTV footage, it can be seen that the two students dressed in white Punjabi pajamas and black coats walked up the ladder to the sculpture’s altar. Later, he took a hammer out of a bag that belonged to someone and smashed the sculpture. After completing the mission, they similarly returned to the madrasa and informed the two teachers (about the arrest). At that time the teachers told the students not to go to the madrasa but to go home.
He said police had filed a case under the Special Powers Act of 1974 against those arrested in the incident. Police recovered a hammer from the madrasa. There was white.

Meanwhile, various sectors have expressed their outrage at the public order meeting held in the Kushtia district administration conference room on Sunday afternoon for fear of deterioration of public order and insecurity in the city after the demolition of the sculpture.
Deputy Commissioner Aslam Hossain chaired the function. The deputy general secretary of the Awami League, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, was present at the meeting. A three-member committee was formed to investigate the demolition of the sculpture at a meeting held in the deputy commissioner’s office.
Meanwhile, protests and demonstrations were held by political, social and cultural organizations in different parts of the city on Sunday afternoon. The Awami League of Kushtia district organized a large protest procession at 4 pm in protest of the incident.
