Inspired by Maulana’s anti-sculpture statement on the YouTube video platform, the police claimed that two students from the madrassa were injured in a sculpture under construction by Bangabandhu in Kushtia.

The Kushtia district police administration has made such a demand, citing the initial questioning of the four people arrested after viewing CCTV footage of the incident on Sunday afternoon. After a press conference, the district police also sent a press release to the media.

The statement read: “Inspired by the statements of Maulana Mohammad Mamunul Haque and Syed Mohammad Faizul Karim, Abu Bakkar and Nahid admitted that they had vandalized the sculpture under construction of Bangabandhu at the intersection of five roads in Kushtia on Friday night.”

Khulna Range, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), said at the press conference. B Mohid Uddin was also present. He later told NTV Online, “We were told in preliminary questioning that the two madrasa students smashed the sculpture after watching several anti-sculpture videos on YouTube.”

Amid heated discussion and criticism of the sculpture, criminals vandalized the Bangabandhu sculpture under construction at the intersection of five roads in the city of Kushtia on Friday night. The Awami League and related parties are protesting across the country.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said today that four people have been arrested in the incident. They are all studying at the local Ibn Masud Madrasa or are teachers there. Abu Bakr and Nahid were directly involved in the incident.

First, they arrested Sabuj Islam alias Nahid, 20, from his Golibari village in Philippnagar, Daulatpur on the border with India, and Abu Bakar alias Mithun, 19, from Shingpur in Mirpur upazila. They are students from the Hefz department of Ibn Masood Madrasa in Jugia Paschimpara of the city of Kushtia. Later, two teachers, Al Amin (26) and Yusuf Ali (26), were arrested. Al Amin is a resident of Dhubail village in Mirpur upazila and Yusuf Ali is a resident of Diar Bamundi village in Pabna District Aminpur Police Station. They will be forwarded.

The shooting took place in the vicinity of the sculpture on Saturday. When asked about this, the DIG said: ‘We have heard the matter. The matter is under investigation. However, these shootings are not related to the destruction of the sculpture.

The incident of breaking the sculpture was captured by a closed circuit television camera. In the video, it is seen that at 2:16 pm on Friday, two men in Punjabi pajamas arrived at the Bangabandhu sculpture on foot. He climbed the staircase surrounding the Bangabandhu sculpture village under construction at the corner of five roads in Kushtia city. Then he took out a hammer from the bag on his back and first struck the high index finger of Bangabandhu’s hand. He later hit her with a hammer and smashed her hands and face. After about nine minutes, they went down the same staircase.
