Hasan Mahmud, information minister and deputy general secretary of the Awami League, said: “The people demand exemplary punishment for those who have damaged the Bangabandhu sculpture in Kushtia. They must be punished. ‘

Hasan Mahmud said this while addressing a discussion meeting on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of the death of Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy organized by the Bangabandhu Cultural Alliance at the National Press Club in the capital on Sunday noon.

The Information Minister said: “Those for whom the sculpture is unacceptable should not keep their father’s photo or theirs. Showing their appearance on television, even the anti-sculpture posts they post on social media, according to them, is not acceptable to them. Therefore, these statements cannot mislead people. I urge you, please, do not confuse sculptures and idols and do not confuse people and scholars.

Hassan Mahmoud said: ‘The sculptures are available in every country in the world, even in Saudi Arabia, there are many sculptures with the figures of the rulers. There are many sculptures in Iran, including those of the leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Khamenei, as well as in Turkey. Those who believe in Pakistani ideology, those who are horrified by the disintegration of Pakistan, their followers have the sculpture of the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the sculpture of the poet Iqbal.
