Regarding the current situation with the sculpture, the Secretary General of the Awami League and the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, Obaidul Quader, said: “We are with the government. The prime minister is dealing with the matter. who is dealing with Corona, he has come here with courage to face adversity, so he knows how to deal with any situation.
Obaidul Quader further said that we will not go directly to any conflict. We will argue that idols and sculptures are not one. Don’t those who speak out against sculpture today know that there are sculptures in Muslim countries, including Saudi Arabia? If the sculpture is not anti-Islamic, why in Bangladesh? Isn’t it reasonable?
He said it after paying tribute at the shrine of three national leaders on Saturday to mark the anniversary of the death of Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy.
Recalling the political life of Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy, Obaidul Quader said: “He is our national leader, the son of democracy, the political guru of Bangabandhu.” During Pakistan’s colonial period, he repeatedly fought for democracy, was persecuted, even emigrated. He repeatedly said that democracy is the key to my life. The verdict of the people is the last word on the question of the constitution, he used to say that.
Regarding the development of democracy in Bangladesh, he said: “Today we have reached this stage after going through many ups and downs.” Although Bangladesh became independent, democracy was shackled for 21 years after the brutal assassination of Bangabandhu after 75. Upon returning to her homeland, the first task of Bangabandhu’s daughter, Sheikh Hasina, was to liberate democracy. That is why he has fought, traveled across the country, been tortured and endured imprisonment. Democracy is now chained, but not institutionalized. On this day, our promise will be to institutionalize democracy. Democracy is a developing trend.
The secretary general of the Awami League said: “There is a part of the people in this country who talk about democracy but never believe in democracy in their behavior and actions.” There are communal evils, they are enemies of democracy. They do not want the development of democracy. To institutionalize democracy, internal democracy must be practiced. No one in Bangladesh except the Awami League has done that at this time. Those who do not have democracy in their own homes cannot be expected to go out and establish democracy in the country.
Warning about the rebel candidates in the local government elections, Obaidul Quader said: “We are not nominating any rebel, whether defeated or victorious.” This will send a message to everyone that there is punishment for rebellion. Earlier, the party, led by the secretary general of the Awami League, paid tribute to Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy with flowers.
At that time, the party organization secretary, SM Kamal Hossain, the social assistance and welfare secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, the Barrister Biplob Barua office secretary, the agriculture and cooperatives secretary Faridunnahar Laili, the executive committee member Dr. Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, ABM Reazul Kabir Kawshar, Deputy Secretary of the office, Sayem Khan, and others were present.
