“We stand with the government,” he told reporters after paying his respects at the grave of Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy on his 57th anniversary of death on Saturday. You should not heat your head on all matters.
“The prime minister is handling the matter. From the way he is dealing with Corona, he has come here with courage to face adversity. So he knows how to deal with any situation.”
The controversy started after Hefazat-e-Islam Deputy Secretary General Mamunul Haque openly opposed the installation of a Bangabandhu sculpture at Dholairpar in Dhaka during the Mujib year. Later, other Hefazat leaders also made themselves heard.
The Hefazat leaders in this position, some leaders of the ruling Awami League are speaking such harsh language. On the other hand, various political and cultural organizations have demanded the arrest of Hefazat Amir Junaid Babungari and Deputy Secretary General Mamunul Haque for threatening to oppose the anti-sculpture and demolish the Bangabandhu sculpture.
Obaidul Quader said: “We will not go to any conflict. We will argue that idols and sculptures are not one.
“Don’t those who speak out against sculpture today know that there are sculptures in Muslim countries, including Saudi Arabia? Sculpture is not anti-Islamic there, why is it not reasonable in Bangladesh?
On the anniversary of Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy’s death, various organizations, including the Awami League, paid tribute at the shrine of three national leaders in Doel Chattar.
A delegation led by the Secretary General of the Awami League, Obaidul Quader, paid tribute with flowers. Organizing Secretary SM Kamal Hossain, Relief Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, ABM Executive Member Reazul Kabir Kawshar and others were present on the occasion.
Recalling the political life of Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy, Obaidul Quader said: “He is our national leader, the son of democracy, the political guru of Bangabandhu. During the colonial rule of Pakistan, he repeatedly fought for democracy, was persecuted, and even left the country. I used to say that democracy is the main mantra of my life. The verdict of the people is the last word on the question of the constitution, he used to say that ”.
Regarding the development of democracy in Bangladesh, he said: “Our democracy has reached this stage today after going through many ups and downs. Although Bangladesh was independent, democracy was shackled for 21 years after the brutal assassination of Bangabandhu in 1975. Afterwards After the return of Bangabandhu’s daughter, Sheikh Hasina, to her homeland, her first task was to unleash democracy, which is why she has fought, traveled the country, been tortured and endured imprisonment.
“Democracy is now free of chains but it has not been institutionalized. On this day, our commitment will be to institutionalize democracy. Democracy is a developing trend. “
He said: “There is a sector of people in this country who talk about democracy but never believe in democracy in their actions and deeds. There are communal evils, they are enemies of democracy. They do not want the development of democracy.
“To institutionalize democracy, internal democracy must be practiced. Nobody has done it in Bangladesh at this time, except the Awami League. Those without democracy in their homes cannot be expected to establish democracy in the country.”
