Speaking with the wounded Amrul Islam Nayan and eyewitnesses to the incident, it emerged that Shahiduzzaman Jewel and his followers were furious at recent reports in the newspapers against supporters of Baluakandi Union Parishad (UP) president Shahiduzzaman Jewel. Due to this incident, Jewel Chairman people entered the mosque and attacked him while he was going to offer Friday prayers.
At the urging of the Jewel president, his two brothers Montu and Sentu and his nephews Rubel, Babu and their associates Sujan, Mehedi, Masum, Russell, Sumon, Salam, Gaffar, and 20-25 others attacked Nayan. At that moment they beat him with sharp weapons, sticks and bricks and wounded him. Later, Nayan’s brother-in-law and father-in-law tried to stop them, but the terrorists attacked them. Later, the faithful rescued them and sent them to the Upazila Health Complex.
Munshiganj Circle Additional Police Superintendent Khandaker Ashrafuzzaman said Gazaria police launched an operation to arrest those involved in the incident. No one involved in the incident will be saved.
Gazaria Upazila Awami League General Secretary and Upazila Parishad President Amirul Islam, Munshiganj Press Club President Mir Nasir Uddin Ujjwal, and General Secretary Mamunur Rashid Khoka condemned the attack and demanded maximum punishment.
