According to government sources, the Bangladeshi government has secured all kinds of facilities, including infrastructure in Bhasanchar, for one lakh of Rohingya with its own funds. For the Rohingya who were brought to Bhasanchar in the first phase, food, basic necessities and other supplies have been stored on the island for at least a month.
The source added that one-year supplies would be stored for the relocated Rohingya in Bhasanchar from the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner’s office in Cox’s Bazar. In addition, 22 local and foreign aid agencies have been involved to ensure various types of humanitarian assistance for the Rohingya. Meanwhile, more than a hundred workers from these organizations are now stationed in Bhasanchar.
The United Nations has questioned the relocation of a section of the Rohingya to Bhasanchar. International human rights groups have called for the transfer to be stopped.
However, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen told the media that no Rohingya were being forcibly taken to Bhasanchar. Only those who have responded to the government’s call are transferred.
