Sculpture controversy
The country’s leading ulama, mashayekh and muftis have said at a joint press conference that the construction, installation and preservation of sculptures or idols of human beings or of any other animal, even if not for worship purposes, is clearly illegitimate, clearly forbidden and the most heinous sin. And if it is for the purpose of worship, then it is obvious to avoid.
Muslims should not follow these illegal acts. Those who say that idols and sculptures are not one are wrong. Hiding the truth. It is disobedience to the Qur’an and the Sunnah. Even if there is a sculpture in any other Muslim country, the sculpture cannot be justified by an example.
A statement was made at the press conference held at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Thursday. Amir Junaid Babungari of Hefazat-e-Islam and 95 other senior muftis from the country have signed there.
Hefazat-e-Islam Secretary General Allama Noor Hossain Qasemi, Bashundhara Center for Islamic Research Director Mufti Arshad and Maulana Mahfuzul Haque expressed this on behalf of the Ulama-Mashayekhs. Earlier, the statement was made at a closed-door meeting in the presence of the country’s top muftis at the Islamic Research Center in Bashundhara, Dhaka, on Wednesday.
Mufti Enamul Haque Kasemi of the Bashundhara Islamic Research Center read a written statement at the press conference. In attendance were Allama Hafez Maulana Ataullah Ibne Hafezji Huzur, Allama Abdul Hamid Pir Sahib Madhupur, Naib Amir Abdur Rab Yusuf of Hefazat Islam, Mufti Arshad Rahmani Bashundhara, Maulana Abul Kalam Mohammadpur, Mufti Mahfuzul Haque. Allama Nurul Islam Jihadi and Mufti Enamul Haque Bashundhara responded to questions from journalists.
Among the signatories of the declaration were:
Maulana Mufti Abdul Malek of Markazud Dawa Al Islamia Madrasa, Head Mufti of Akbar Complex Maulana Dilwar Hossain, Mufti of Jamia Madania Baridhara Maulana Mohiuddin Masum, Jamia Rahmania Arabia Mohammadul Dhaka Istaat. Islam Tauhidul, etc.
At the press conference it was said that discussions are taking place recently as the government has taken steps to build the sculpture. There are different pros and cons of sculpture. As a result, research has been done on this at the national level. Confusion is created with the provision of sculptures and statues. Building on that momentum, the best ulama, Kerams and Muftis have prepared a joint statement on sculpture and sculpture.
It has been said that by ignoring the clear rules of Islam and distinguishing between animal sculptures and idols, the fact that animal sculptures are legal is a concealment of the truth and disobedience to the Quran and Sunnah. Furthermore, drawing the analogy of sculptures and idols from different countries in front of the clear provisions of the Qur’an and Sunnah is equivalent to ignoring an infallible provision of Islam.
Muslims must not follow the illegal actions of the rulers of any Muslim country. The only thing they must follow for them is the Quran, the Sunnah and the Islamic Sharia. At the press conference, the muftis are said to have delivered this verdict unanimously on the matter.
