Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that Bangladesh will not be able to forget and forgive the atrocities committed by Pakistan in 1971.
On Thursday, the Pakistani High Commissioner in Dhaka, Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, visited the Prime Minister at her official residence in Ganobhaban and told her that the events of 1971 could not be forgotten or forgiven.
Referring to the book ‘Secret Documents of the Intelligence Branch on the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’, the Prime Minister said: “Everyone will be able to know many historical events of 1947-61 from this book.”
He said that the Urdu version of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s ‘Unfinished Autobiography’ is one of the best-selling books in Pakistan. It is widely read in other countries as well as in Pakistan.
When the High Commissioner conveyed the good wishes of Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he also greeted the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
The High Commissioner said that the Prime Minister of Pakistan had advised them to learn about the wonders of Bangladesh’s development. Stating that various bilateral and regional fora are inactive, he sought the help of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to activate the Foreign Affairs Consultation (CDB) activities between the two countries.
In response, the Prime Minister said that there is no obstacle here to continue regularly. The new envoy said that Pakistan wants to develop relations with Bangladesh without any hindrance.
In this regard, the Prime Minister replied that he believed in regional cooperation. Referring to Bangladesh’s foreign policy of “friendship to all, not enmity to anyone”, Sheikh Hasina said that he believed in maintaining relations with other countries from different perspectives. The High Commissioner praised Sheikh Hasina’s leadership on the world stage. The Prime Minister welcomed the new High Commissioner and assured him of his full cooperation in the performance of his duties.
