Police have recovered the bodies of housewife Salma Begum, 25, and her two-year-old daughter Tasreen, from Badarpur village in Mehendiganj upazila of Barisal. Their bodies were recovered from their home in the Badarpur area of Upazila Sadar on Thursday morning. Salma Begum’s husband’s name is Amjad Hossain. He is a day laborer by profession.
According to local sources and family, Salma Akhter had a fight with her husband Amjad Hossain on Wednesday night. Later in the morning, the body of Salma Akhter was found hanging from the ceiling of the house and her daughter’s body lay on the floor next to the body, locals reported to police. According to locals, mother Salma Begum committed suicide by suffocating the child on Wednesday night. Salma’s husband was at her sister’s home in the same area at the time of the incident.
Said the Mehendiganj Police Officer in Charge (OC). Abidur Rahman said the incident could occur at any time of the day or night on Wednesday. Their bodies were recovered from the scene after receiving the news on Thursday morning. Salma’s husband, Amjad, was arrested and taken to the police station for questioning. Additionally, the bodies of the mother and daughter have been sent to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College in Barisal for autopsy.
