Assistant Deputy Inspector (ASI) Harun-ur-Rashid of the Taherpur Police Research Center in Bagmara Upazila of Rajshahi has been removed and assigned to the district police lines. The move came after a video of the police officer taking money from a store was posted on Facebook.
Last Tuesday, two 1 minute, 4 second and 35 second videos were posted from a Facebook ID called the Bagmara Helpline. The two videos show ASI Harun-ur-Rashid taking money from a man in a store. However, the person who gave the money was not seen. The videos are known to have been recorded in a store called Ashik Telecom in Taherpur, Bagmara. Store owner Ashikur Rahman said ASI Harun-ur-Rashid arrived at his store on Tuesday. Then Harun-ur-Rashid took three thousand rupees saying that he would collect money from someone else.
Harun-ur-Rashid was contacted on his mobile phone more than once Thursday to find out about this, but he did not reply. He could not be reached for comment.
Rajshahi District Police Spokesperson, Additional District Police Superintendent Iftekhar Alam, said ASI Harun-ur-Rashid was accused of taking bribes. The matter is under investigation. Disciplinary action will then be taken against you.
