In Ashulia in Dhaka, a garment worker was burned with acid by her ex-husband. People arrested the man, beat him, and handed him over to the police. The incident took place in the Jamgarh area on Wednesday night.
The name of the woman who was burned by acid is Dolana Akhter aka Rima (23). His home is in Melandah upazila of Jamalpur. He lives in the Shimultala area of Jamgarh. He works in a local clothing factory.
Ashulia police said Dolana married a young man named Ranju a couple of years ago. Ranju teaches at a private elementary school. Dolana divorced Ranju three months ago because she was not married. From that moment on, Ranju was threatening in various ways. Dolana was coming home from work around 10 p.m. yesterday. Ranju, who was lurking on the road, tried to escape by throwing acid onto the swing from very close. Local people rescued Dolana and took her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. He arrested Ranju, beat him and handed him over to the police.
Ashulia Police Station (SI) Deputy Inspector Iqbal Hossain said Dalna’s eyes, face and chest were burned from the acid. Ranju is being treated at the Savar City Public Health Hospital under police surveillance. He (Ranju) has acid on his hands and forehead. A case is being prepared in this regard.
