The Chinese spacecraft Chang Yi has successfully landed on the back of the moon. At 11:11 p.m. local time on Tuesday, the lunar spacecraft landed at a predetermined location on the moon, according to the China National Space Administration (CNSA).

The robotic spacecraft has been testing equipment and conditions since landing. The vehicle was preparing to work on the moon for the next 48 hours.

At this time, the Chandrayaan will collect approximately two kilograms of samples and store them in a container. At the end of the work, the unmanned Chang Yi will return to the original spacecraft in orbit around the Moon, some 360,000 kilometers from Earth. This spacecraft is expected to return the lunar spacecraft to Earth.

China launched the Chang Yi spacecraft on November 24. The spacecraft has an orbiter, a lunar vehicle designed to enter lunar orbit, and two other vehicles capable of landing and bringing the lunar spacecraft back to the moon. At 10:57 p.m. local time on Tuesday, the main spacecraft (orbiter) took an orbit 15 kilometers above the back of the moon. From here, the lunar spacecraft landed on the back of the moon. The lunar rover automatically detects obstacles (the surface of the moon) and lands north of the area known as the ‘Storm Ocean’ near the moon.
