To protect the country’s people from the coronavirus, the government approved a policy proposal to buy vaccines in case of emergency. The approval came at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday.
In the absence of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, a meeting of the Cabinet Committee for Economic Affairs and the Cabinet Committee for Public Procurement was held under the chairmanship of the Minister of Law, Anisul Haque. At the end of the meeting, Additional Cabinet Secretary Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal presented the approved issues in a virtual press conference. Regarding the decision to buy the vaccine, he said that the vaccine will be purchased through the direct purchase method. The proposal has been approved. When asked about the cost of purchasing the corona vaccine, Abu Saleh said: “The question of money will be discussed in the acquisition proposal.”
When asked why the vaccine was being purchased without a tender, the additional secretary said that the vaccine should be taken at the same time. According to the rules of public procurement, if you want to buy something worth more than five million rupees in a year, the matter comes to the procurement committee. The valuation is higher since a single supply must be taken. The proposal was submitted for the consideration of this committee in accordance with Rule 6.2) of the 2006 PPR.
After the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Procurement was held. At the meeting, the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement approved 12 tender proposals, including the import of 50,000 tonnes of cooked non-basmati rice from Birbhum, India. This approval has been given in light of the proposal raised at the table by the Food Department. At a rate of Tk 35.28 per kg, it will cost Tk 17.36 crore. The Indian company will supply rice to MST in Agrilink.
