The mystery of the death of Alamgir Miah (40) due to poisoning in a residential hotel in Habiganj has been revealed. Tania Akhter, the deceased’s fourth wife, has given a confessional statement under section 164 in court.
She told the court that she killed her husband by mixing poison with alcohol just out of anger at not having received dignity from her father-in-law’s house.
Tania Akhter’s statement was recorded in the court of the senior judicial magistrate Touhidul Islam on Tuesday evening.
The deceased was identified as Alamgir, son of Abdur Rahim from Sultan Mahmudpur village under Sadar upazila. His fourth wife, Tania Akter, is the daughter of Lutfur Rahman from Ikram village in Baniachang upazila.
Sadar Model Police OC on Wednesday. Masuk Ali confirmed the information and said that Tania is Alamgir’s fourth wife. Enraged at not getting the dignity of her father-in-law’s house, Tania planned to kill her husband. According to the plan, they rented a room at Sihab Rest House in the city. There she mixed poison with alcohol and made her husband Alamgir drink it.
She said that her husband was taken to the hospital with the help of the hotel staff because she was ill and the doctor declared her dead. Later, Tania was arrested at the hospital. When she was placed in preventive detention for questioning, she confessed to having killed her husband. The court ordered that he be sent to jail after accepting his confession.
Police said the two rented a room at the Sihab Rest House in Habiganj on July 23 and stayed overnight. In the morning, Tania suddenly informed the hotel manager that her husband had fallen ill. He was later taken to Sadar Adhunik Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead. Tania, the wife of the deceased, wept there. Alamgir’s father later filed a murder case at the police station. Subsequently, the police arrested Tania in the hospital and sent her to jail.
