The United Nations has welcomed the government’s decision to trust the Rohingya to flee from Cox’s Bazar refugee camp to Bhasanchar. The agency asked the government to honor the commitment. The United Nations said in a press release on Wednesday.
“The United Nations is aware of a report from the Government of Bangladesh on the possibility of initiating the initial relocation of Rohingya refugees from Cox’s Bazar to Bhasan Char in the Bay of Bengal in the coming days,” the statement said.
The UN has always called for ensuring that Rohingya refugees can make informed and independent decisions based on relevant, accurate and up-to-date information about relocation to Bhasanchar. In the current situation, the United Nations is emphasizing this issue.
The United Nations has emphasized the need to ensure that all refugees wishing to move voluntarily to Bhasanchar are guaranteed their education, health care and livelihood, as well as all basic rights and services, including freedom of movement from the island to the continent. It will serve as the foundation of a safe and functional city in Bhasanchar.
The statement further stated: “Since the announcement of the Bhasanchar project by the Government of Bangladesh, the United Nations has proposed constructive discussions to create a comprehensive understanding of the plan and have considered the most important issues of policy, methodology and implementation with the Government. The United Nations is still interested in continuing these talks.
Regarding the return of Rohingya refugees to their homeland, the UN said the UN is working to ensure their permanent solution, including the safe, voluntary, dignified and permanent repatriation of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar.
