Tensions are rising between the two countries recently.
Today, the Chinese embassy in Australia retaliated without apology. A statement from the embassy said: “There are two motives behind this accusation. One is to divert people’s attention from the horrible atrocities committed by some members of the Australian military. The other is to blame China for the deterioration of relations between the Australian military. In addition, it may be an attempt to incite nationalism in the country.
The statement added that the country must confront the crimes committed by Australian troops in Afghanistan. Perpetrators must be held accountable and victims must be brought to justice.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said it was “really offensive and in no way justifiable”. The Chinese government should be ashamed of this. This incident has sunk them even further in the eyes of the world.
The Australian government has asked Twitter to remove the image.
The Australian Defense Force (ADF) recently released a report after a four-year investigation into the misconduct of Australian troops during the Afghan war. There is evidence that Australian troops killed 39 innocent people in Afghanistan. Last Friday, the country’s army chief said that the dismissal of 13 Australian special forces had already been recommended.
