Russell Viper’s Bengali name is Chandrabora or Ulubora. Its scientific name is Daboia russelii) it is one of the most poisonous snakes of the Viperidae family. This snake is the most poisonous and its use intolerant and many people are bitten by its long poisonous teeth (solenoglyphs) protruding. Poisoning stops blood from clotting. The result is death after prolonged suffering from excessive bleeding.

It lives in an open environment of lowland grasslands and a somewhat arid environment. They are nocturnal, they eat rats, little birds, lizards and frogs for food. They are very aggressive. A significant part of all people in the world die each year from snake bites.

Its teeth are the second largest in the world. They can whistle loudly. Chandrabora is a homotoxin poison, which causes human flesh to rot when bitten. Other snakes bite prey and eat it instantly; But the victim of the fierce Chandrabora loves to eat not only alone, but with his entire family. So other snakes, like a rat, bite and eat instantly, while Chandrabora bites and leaves. When the rat ran into its hole in agony of severe poison, Chandrabora followed it and entered the hole and ate all the rats.

The Chandrabora snake is a rare snake from West Bengal and Bangladesh. It is common and widespread in most of the districts of West Bengal and in all divisions of Bangladesh. Especially in Nadia Burdwan and North 24 Parganas in the rural areas of Bankura district, this snake is one of the reasons for fear. This snake is found more in the Rajshahi region of Bangladesh. Russell Viper India is on the list of endangered species in Bangladesh. Other snakes try to avoid humans, but the nature of this snake is the opposite. Therefore, a significant number of people die each year just from the bite of this snake. The snake is notorious as a “killing machine” due to its rapid attack and the intensity of the venom.

It is also found in various parts of West Bengal, including Nadia district, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, southern China, Taiwan, Thailand, Burma, and Indonesia. They usually lay eggs and hatch. However, the Chandrabora snake gives birth directly rather than laying eggs. They reproduce at any time of the year. A female snake gives birth to 20 to 40 children late in pregnancy. However, some Chandrabora snakes have a history of giving birth to up to 75 children.

About Russell Viper, Johra Mila, Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Officer of the Bangladesh Forest Department, said Russell Viper is on the list of endangered species in Bangladesh. Other snakes try to avoid humans, but this snake is the opposite. So every year a significant number of people die just from the bite of this snake. The snake is notorious as a ‘killing machine’ due to its rapid attack and the intensity of the venom.

Johra Mila said that the snake is the fifth most dangerous venomous snake in the world in terms of intensity. But in just 1 second out of 1 second, the snake can bite someone and spill poison! So Russell Viper lost all the snakes in terms of bite speed and took first place. Other than that, the venom of this snake is the second largest in the world. No antivenom from this snake is found in Bangladesh.

Death is certain to be said with just one touch. Because there is no example of Russell being bitten by a viper but surviving. Fortunately, even if someone survives, the venom of this snake is ‘hemotoxin’ and the infected person dies due to rotting of the meat. So consciousness is the only way to survive the snake.
