Just when the BJP was accused of divisive politics, Karnataka’s state minister and BJP leader KS Ishwarappa said that no Muslim would be nominated in the elections.
The criticism has started after Karnataka Rural Development Minister KS Ishwarappa noted that nominations will only be accepted if the supporters are Hindu, but never if the candidates are Muslim.
The BJP leader made the remarks on Sunday during the ongoing election campaign for the seat of Belgaum Lok Sabha in Karnataka, the Kolkata Daily Anandabazar reported in an online report.
Political experts believe that the majority of the Hindu community in that district is the BJP vote bank. As a result, Ishwarappa made such a controversial comment when speaking about the preparations for the elections there.
“We can give tickets to anyone in the Hindu community,” he said. Either Brahman and Lingayet or Kuruba and Vokkaliga. But the party will never give a ticket to any Muslim.
It is worth mentioning that the BJP leadership did not respond to the request of Roshan Beg, seven times MLA, despite the fact that he had recently issued tickets to 16 MLA who had left Congress.
Despite not making anti-Muslim comments as openly as Ishwarappa, Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa has also taken the initiative to keep the Hindu vote in check. He wants to maintain his fragile position by saying communal words.
