At a recent meeting of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in the West African country of Niger, the world’s leading Muslim countries adopted a joint resolution on India-controlled Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a report by German media Deutsche Welle, India on Sunday strongly criticized the OIC proposal, saying that no other country has the right to accept such a proposal on Jammu and Kashmir.

In the statement, Delhi further said that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and is an internal matter of India.

Foreign ministers from major Muslim countries met at the 48th OIC summit in Niger on November 28-29.

In addition to Corona and diplomatic relations, the meeting also discussed the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

It is worth mentioning that in 2019, the Government of India repealed Article 370 of Kashmir. As a result, the special rights that Kashmir had enjoyed for so long have been revoked. At the same time, the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been divided into two separate Union Territories. One is Ladakh and the other is Jammu and Kashmir.

The controversy did not subside after India’s decision. The country’s opponents have protested. It has also had an impact outside the country. Pakistan has been protesting from the beginning.

The Imran Khan government has asked to accept several proposals in this regard at the international level. But Pakistan’s appeal in multiple forums, starting with the United Nations, did not gain as much importance.

India has repeatedly said that Kashmir is its internal affair. Other states do not have the right to comment.

This is the first time that an international forum has directly proposed Kashmir. Experts believe that Pakistan has played an important role in accepting the Kashmir resolution at the Niger conference.

India’s Foreign Ministry later issued a statement strongly criticizing the proposal. He said that no state or organization has the right to accept a resolution on Kashmir.

At the same time, the statement said that the states that are partners in the proposal do not protect the interests of minorities in their own countries. Even in these countries, minorities are tortured. Although he did not give names, experts believe that India’s statement points to Pakistan.

At the UN, Pakistan made several attempts to raise the Kashmir issue in support of China, but to no avail. Later, Turkey sided with Pakistan. Erdogan has condemned India’s policy on Kashmir.

Kashmir has also been discussed in the Arab world. Kashmir has been left out of the recent map of India used in the G20 Arab notes.

According to experts, the recent adoption of a resolution on Kashmir at the OIC meeting is unprecedented.
