A venomous Russell Viper (Chandrabora) snake has been found in a pond in Munshiganj’s Tongibari upazila. The snake was rescued from the Mitara area of the Dighirpar union of the Upazila around 4 p.m. Sunday (November 29).
A local young man named Apu Mandal (32) rescued the snake and put it in an iron cage. Panic has spread among the locals after the venomous snake was rescued from the pond.
Apu Mandal said that work was underway to clean the pond Sunday morning for fishing. At this time a 4-5 foot snake was seen inside the water hyacinth. At first it looked like a python. Later, investigations confirmed that it was a poisonous Russell’s viper.
Chittagong Poison Research Center official Borhan Biswas saw the image and confirmed that the snake was a Russell Viper.
He said the snake would be rescued and taken away on Monday (November 30). Which will be used to make anti-venom at the Venom Research Center.
Russell, known worldwide as a killing machine, attacks a viper so quickly that it can complete the entire biting process in less than 16 parts of a second. After the bite, the tissues of the affected area of the body are damaged and rot. Death is certain if it is not treated in time.
