Argentine police searched the home and private clinic of Leopoldo Luke, the personal physician of the late Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona. Police are trying to find out if there was negligence in Maradona’s treatment.
Diego Maradona died of a heart attack at his home near the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, four days ago. He was 80 years old.
His two daughters reportedly wanted to know what medications Maradona was being given.
In early November, Maradona underwent a successful operation due to a blood clot in his brain. He was then scheduled to begin treatment to reduce his dependence on alcohol.
Maradona is considered one of the best stars in world football. Under his leadership, Argentina won the World Cup in 1986.
The mourning in Argentina for his death was unprecedented. Thousands of people gathered in the streets of the capital, Buenos Aires, to pay their last respects to Maradona before burying him.
Thousands of people lined the presidential palace to pay their respects. The police had to use force to deal with the mourners when they tried to approach the coffin. The police fired tear gas and rubber bullets.
At one point, Maradona’s coffin was removed from its public place. Maradona’s body was later taken in a caravan to the Bella Vista cemetery on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. There, Maradona was buried next to his parents’ grave.
