Haji Selim’s personal secretary said he died at Dhanmondi Labaid Hospital in Dhaka on Sunday night.
Gulshan Ara was 50 years old. He was president of Medina Group, Haji Selim’s family organization.
Gulshan Ara was the District Commissioner (now Counselor) of the Dhaka City Undivided Corporation.
Irfan Selim, the son of former ward commissioner Haji Selim, was also a ward councilor before being arrested and sent to jail.
Haji Mohammad Selim’s personal secretary, Mohiuddin Mahmud Belal, told bdnews24.com that Gulshan Ara had been suffering from diabetes, kidneys, high blood pressure and liver problems for a long time.
On December 16, 2016, Gulshan Ara was taken to the bank for treatment.
“After receiving treatment there for about 20 months, he was taken to Dhaka by air ambulance on August 20 this year and admitted to Labaid Hospital,” Belal said.
He said he had been in the ICU for the past seven days.
Belal said nothing has been decided about the janaza and burial yet.
He said that Haji Selim is also currently in Labaid Hospital.
Haji Selim has three children Solaiman Selim, Irfan Selim and Salman Selim.
Irfan is now in jail.
RAB raided Haji Selim’s home before arresting Irfan for allegedly beating a naval officer. However, neither Haji Selim nor his wife were home then.
