Messi scored the team’s fourth goal in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Osasuna at Camp Nou La Liga. The Argentine star took control of Trincomalee’s pass and hit the goal with a high shot from outside the area.

Following the goal, the jersey was unveiled by the record footballer of the year six times, wearing the number 10 Newell’s Old Boys jersey in memory of his predecessor Maradona. From this Argentine team, Messi joined the Camp Nou, a team in which Maradona played.

Interestingly, the little Messi of that day was present at Maradona’s debut match with Newell’s Old Boys on October 6, 1993. Maradona, the great hero of Argentina’s victory in the 198 World Cup, scored the goal.

Messi’s celebration surprised his teammates. Antoine Griezmann, who scored the team’s second goal, said at the end of the match that they were unaware of Messi’s celebration.

“We didn’t know what Messi was preparing for Maradona’s honor. That was a big surprise.”

At the end of the match, another striker, Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho, called Maradona “an idol of the world.”

“We lost to Maradona. She is an idol around the world. Everyone will miss him.”

Maradona, one of the best footballers in football history, died of cardiac arrest last Wednesday at the age of 80.
