A court sentenced a girl and her mother to life imprisonment to death in the murder case of the Kishoreganj schoolboy, Tofail. At the same time, the mother and daughter have been fined one lakh of rupees. Kishoreganj First Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim delivered the verdict on Sunday afternoon.
The two convicts are Rina Akhter (52) and her daughter Juena Akhter (30). The convicts are the wife and daughter of Dulal Bhuiyan from the Batrish area of Kishoreganj city.
According to the file and court sources, a 12-year-old boy from the same area had an argument with Tofail, an eighth-grade student, on March 10, 2012 while he was going to watch the puja at Batrish Akhra in Kishoreganj. At one stage, the boy, his mother Rina Akhter and his sister Juena beat Tofail with a stick. Tofail was rescued in critical condition and taken to hospital, where he died. Tofail’s father, Awlad Hossain, filed a murder case against three people at the Kishoreganj Sadar Police Station. In that case, the court sentenced the daughter and mother to life imprisonment. However, the case is pending in the Court for the Suppression of the Abuse of Women and Children since the other defendant is younger.
The investigating officer on the case, Deputy Inspector (SI) Ahsan Habib, filed a charge sheet against the three defendants in the case. The plaintiff’s lawyer in the case was Abu Saeed Imam and the defendant’s lawyer was Kshitish Debnath.
